GRANDMA’S CHOCOLATE CAKE – October 28 – National Chocolate Day


  • 2 oz milk chocolate
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder (Grandma’s recipe said “1 heaping teaspoon B.P.”)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Cooking spray


Preheat a moderate oven (350 degrees Fahrenheit)

Dissolve chocolate in 5 tablespoons boiling water. In a large bowl and add butter.  Beat and slowly add the sugar.  Beat for a while then add the egg yolks, milk, melted chocolate, and flour.  Beat well.  In a separate bowl add the baking powder, vanilla, and egg whites.  Beat until stiff, then fold into the chocolate mixture.  Pour into a cake pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.  Bake for 40 minutes, in a moderate oven. lol
