BLEU CHEESE-STUFFED BURGERS – October 9 – National Moldy Cheese Day

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ – 2  lbs ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup bleu cheese crumbles
  • 4 sesame buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • Dill pickle slices to taste
  • Ketchup to taste
  • Mustard to taste

Instructions:

In a bowl mix the ground beef, egg, and spices together.  Divide the mixture into 1/8ths and patty out just larger than the sesame buns are across inside.  In the center of each patty put an indention in the middle about 1-2 inches wide.  In a bowl mix the cream cheese and bleu cheese.  Divide the bleu cheese mixture into 1/4s and spoon into the middle of 4 of the patties.  Place the other 4 patties, indent side down, over the patties with the bleu cheese mixture and press the edges together.  Preheat a grill, or pan, to medium-high.  Grill on each side until grill marks can be seen on the bottom, about 3-5 minutes.  Turn over and grill on the other side for about 3-5 more minutes, until the patties feel firm.  Flip twice more, cooking 2-3 minutes per side.  Cut into the middle of one patty to make sure it is done all the way through.  Stack patties on each bun and top with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard.
