DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER – September 15 – National Double Cheeseburger Day

Serves 4

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices cheese
  • 4 sesame buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • Dill pickle slices to taste
  • Ketchup to taste
  • Mustard to taste

In a bowl mix the ground beef, egg, and spices together.  Divide the mixture into 1/8ths and patty out just larger than the sesame buns are across in side.  In the center of each patty put an indention in the middle about 1-2 inches wide.  Preheat a grill, or pan, to medium high.  Grill on each side until grill marks can be seen on the bottom, about 3-5 minutes.  Turn over and grill on the other side for about 3-5 more minutes, until the patties feel firm.  Top with cheese and turn off the grill and close the lid until the cheese is melted.  Stack 2 patties on each bun and top with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard.

TOMORROW: September is National Honey Month.  Tomorrow the recipe will use Honey
