LEMON SAUCE

Serves 8-12

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • Lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup (or more to taste) lemon juice
  • Optional: 1/4 cup half and half

Instructions

  1. Bring water and sugar to boil in a saucepan. Bring to boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.  Lower heat to medium.  Add butter, vanilla, and salt and simmer (stirring occasionally) until butter is melted.  Add lemon zest and lemon juice.  Simmer for a few minutes.
  2. If more lemon flavor desired, add lemon juice to taste.
  3. Optional: stir in 1/4 cup half and half (or cream or milk)
