Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 bratwurst links
  • 1 large Golden Delicious apple, peeled, cored and cut into ½ inch pieces
  • 1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced lengthwise
  • 1 16 oz. package sauerkraut, drained
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • Mustard

Instructions:

Place the bratwurst links in the slow-cooker.  Top with apples, onion, and sauerkraut.  In a bowl add the brown sugar, caraway and fennel seeds, mix.  Add the brown sugar mixture to the top of the slow cooker.  Cook for 3-4 hours, until the bratwurst reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit on an instant-read thermometer.  Remove the bratwurst from the slow cooker.  Place each bratwurst in a bun. Top with mustard then spoon the remaining mixture from the crock-pot onto the buns, to taste.
